Beaches in the Florida Keys

Sombrero Beach, Marathon, Florida Keys
Beautiful Sombrero Beach
Marathon, Florida Keys

Tropical breezes, turquoise blue waters, stunning sunsets and of course sand! My guess would be that you're now dreaming of the picturesque beaches of the Florida Keys.

Since the Keys are islands and made up of reefs, our beaches are narrower and the sand that you see is not part of the natural terrain. Sand is created by pounding waves hitting the shoreline and since the reef breaks up the waves before they hit the shore, no sand is actually created in the Florida Keys. The sand you see on our beaches is imported in and carefully protected against the elements.

That said, there are many beaches in the Keys including Bahia Honda State Park beach, which was voted in a top travel magazine as one of the best beaches in the country; beautiful Sombrero Beach located in Marathon; to Smathers Beach, one of the longest beaches in Key West.

So grab your bathing suit, towel, and suntan lotion and prepare to be awed by the spectacular views while relaxing on one of the many beaches in the Florida Keys.

Islamorada Beaches

Anne's Beach - located at MM 73 on ocean side. Great little beach where you can stroll the boardwalk, swim and lounge.

Holiday Isle Beach Resort - located at MM 84 on ocean side in the Holiday Isle Complex.  Beaches and pools open to public along with shops, restaurants, tiki bars, full service marina, fishing and diving charters, jet skis and boat rentals.

Marathon Beaches

Sombrero Beach - located at MM 50 on ocean side. Beautiful white sandy beaches, picnic benches, shade areas, kids playground and bathrooms. Plan to stay for a while as this is easily one of the most gorgeous beaches in the Keys.

Big Pine Key Beaches

Bahia Honda State Park - located at MM 37 on ocean side. Cited as one of the country's best beaches it offers fabulous swimming and snorkeling. Take time to explore the entire park complete with nature trails and as you cross over to the other side of the park you'll find another secluded beach just as beautiful with spectacular views. There is a charge for admission to this park.

Little Duck Key Beach - located at MM 39 on ocean side. Swim, take a stroll or bring a picnic basket to enjoy in one of the covered picnic shelters.

Key West Beaches

Clarence S. Higgs Memorial Beach - located on Atlantic Boulevard, Higgs Beach is the second largest beach in Key West. Enjoy bicycle paths, picnic pavilions, a restaurant and take a walk on White Street Pier which we believe to be one of the best places to stroll and watch the sunsets at night.

Dog Beach - located at Vernon and Waddell, one of the few beaches in Key West where dogs are allowed.

Smathers Beach - located on the south side of the island, along South Roosevelt Boulevard. One of the longest beaches in Key West. Enjoy swimming, water sports rentals and concession stands.

South Beach - located at the end of Duval Street on the ocean. Swim, loung and relax.  This is definitely not like South Beach in Miami!
